Help & about

Mala Mahjong · a cozy mahjong game with panda characters

How do I learn to play?

Open the Learn tab and walk the panda’s road: real moments from a game, where the panda explains and you make the move. The Rulebook (on the Learn tab, and in Settings) has every rule on one page each. During a game, tap Help at the top right and the panda tells you what to do next, and why.

How does scoring work?

Everyone starts at 0. Only the winner of a hand scores: a point for every fan. Every win starts at 1 fan (a chicken hand), and winning on your own draw, a concealed hand and no flowers add a fan each. A game is one East round of four deals, one per player; the dealer deals again after winning or after a hand with no winner. The most points at the end wins. "Count your points" on the road, and the Rulebook’s "Score points" page, explain fan.

Where is my game saved?

On your phone. You can leave a game at any time and pick it up with "Continue game" on the Home screen. Nothing is stored online, so a game doesn't move to a new phone.

What are Easy, Medium and Hard?

Easy gives unlimited help and tells you when you can Pung, Chow, Kong or win. Medium gives 3 helps a game and keeps every button showing, so you spot your own chances. Hard has no help, you sort your own tiles (each hand waits until you tap Start), and there’s a clock: 10 seconds to call a throw, 20 seconds on your turn. Walk the panda’s road to open Medium, then the rest of it to open Hard.

How do I get new tile sets?

By playing. Walk the rules part of the panda’s road, win ten games, or win a hand using one suit.

How do I start again from scratch?

Settings, then "Reset my progress". This erases your stats, tile sets and saved game and can't be undone.
